Digital PROMs in Colorectal Surgery - A Research Study

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Imperial College London and My Clinical Outcomes are collaborating on an exciting new research study to evaluate the benefits of remote, digital Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) on the care of patients with colorectal conditions to improve understanding of how this data can help enhance quality of service and patient experience.

The study is aimed at patients who are new or recent referrals to the colorectal surgery service at Chelsea and Westminster. It is running for 2 years and the aim is to recruit at least 6,000 patients.

The platform asks patients clinically-validated questions about their symptoms and quality of life before and over the long-term following surgery or treatment. Each assessment a patient records remotely is made immediately available to the patient’s clinical team in real-time, allowing them to better understand the impact of the condition and treatment and to track progress over time.

“This new digital way of collecting data actually allows the patient to become a true partner with the clinician... So far, the process of collecting information from patients has been very fragmented. With this new digital approach patients will have the opportunity to report their outcomes and their experiences and improve our ability to care for them and to help improve the service for patients in future.”
